What I learned from being a student-athlete: Lessons about commitment, dedication,perseverance,responsibility,loyalty,persistance in "doing your best", the power of comradery, doing your duty, learning from failure/defeat, striving for excellence and many more of the attributes athletics enhances can be applied to success and accomplishment in the "real world". 

Notable Post Collegiate Accomplishments: A 25+ year Teaching/Coaching career; USC Women's Baskeball Hall of Fame Inductee 1995; John Lynch Foundation Teacher/Coach of the Year Award 2007; Still playing Recreation League Basketball at age 50!
