Female athletes invited to NGWS Day Jan. 28

Colorado State University-Pueblo and Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County will host a National Girls and Women in Sports Day at the Recreation Center at CSU-Pueblo on Friday, January 28 from 3-6 p.m. Participants will also attend the women’s basketball game that evening at 6 p.m. versus New Mexico Highlands University.
This event will recognize the achievements of girls and women in sports and to encourage all females of Pueblo to participate in sports and fitness activities. Attendees will have an opportunity to explore volleyball, soccer, softball, cheer/dance and healthy eating habits. The event is open to girls in the 8th grade and below and the first 250 registrants will receive free admission to the event, the basketball games and a pre-game meal.
Registration forms can be downloaded here and then faxed to (719) 549-2570 by Wednesday, January 26, 2011. This event is one of more than 1,000 events taking place across the country and Congress has proclaimed National Girls and Women in Sports Day as a national day each year since 1987. This event recognizes the progress of girls and women in sports and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. The day is organized nationally by the American Association of University Women, Girls Scouts of the USA, Girls Incorporated, National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, National Women’s Law Center, Women’s Sports Foundation, and the YWCA of the U.S.A.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Pueblo County has served the community for 39-years. The Club has three Clubhouses—one on Pueblo’s East side, another in the Sangre de Cristo Apartment Complex, and one in Avondale.
