Era: Pueblo Junior College
Athletics programs at CSU-Pueblo would not have been
possible without the vision and determination of Dr. Dale
Rea.
Then merely Mr. Charles Dale Rea, Sr., the driven 24-year old
forged four original athletic programs in 1937 - basketball, golf,
tennis and track - and coached the basketball and track
teams. In 1938, the school's first football team was formed
with Rea as its coach. He also played a large role in
creating the Inter-Mountain Junior College Conference, consisting
of junior colleges in Trinidad, La Junta and Grand Junction, and
other JuCos in the area.
The future school president at Fort Lewis College, Rea departed
from PJC in 1941 when he was called to active duty in World War II,
later earning his doctorate from the University of Colorado in
1952.
