End of the road?

Well today was the last day and I finally put everything together at practice and made some plays however it may be a little too late.

After not performing at my best the previous practice I really had a talk with myself (I know sounds crazy) before today's practice to really tell myself to relax but with a different choice of words that are not appropriate to say in this blog so I'll leave that to the imagination.  I finished hard for the final day.

We had a meeting after practice where Marvin Lewis addressed all the unsigned free agents. He encouraged us to keep pursuing our dream no matter how this weekend turned out. After that I thanked him for the opportunity and headed back to change and eat.  Now I'm at the airport 3 hrs early and had the worst sandwich I've had in my life.

Overall this was a great experience and now I know exactly what to expect. The bigger and faster image of NFL players is definitely true but it becomes relative as you are around them often.  I believe that now if God grants me the opportunity to do this again I will be ready.  And by being ready I mean that I will expect that I have to be ready for anything to happen.  Be ready for having things you are not ready for thrown at you.

One last thing that I thought is very interesting is a quote by John Wooden that is in the Bengals locker room that says, I don't know it exactly, but it said something to the extent of "Why wouldn't we want to go through adversity and hardship when it makes us better? I'm sure I didn't quote it exactly but it makes a lot of sense.  So I'm gonna take this as an experience and if things don't go as I planned I know it made me better.  Just gotta find a different route to the destination.

Thanks all of you guys for the support. And hopefully all my rambling kept you all in the loop.

P.S: some side notes that were VERY FUNNY!

1.Second day of camp people were CRAMPING UP! I mean full body muscle cramps yelling for help! Even people in ice tubs. Very funny because everyone who has these know how helpless and painful they are.

2.  Marvin Lewis is a great guy but has a very goofy laugh.  Well to me it was funny but I think alot is funny.

3.  By the practice fields there are the SAME PEOPLE asking for autographs every day!! I was walking next to Shipley and I swear he signed the same person's picture after every practice.  (we had 2 every day!)

4.  The draft picks are all like us (well people graduating college). Very funny but still college kids just happen to have a few more zeroes in their BANK ACCOUNT!

O well gotta get back to work for me! Well I'm done talking but it's been a blast! Thanks again for the support

Mr. Agyei, Congrats on your journey to become a part of the NFL, a Bengal. My son wants to become a T-wolf and wear your former #21. Coach Sewell says he is a great talent and candidate for slot postion. I'm hoping he transcends his talent this coming fall 2010. Again, congrats - and remember, "The difference between a good player and a great player is...minus 1 yard". Coach Mosby - AK

Keep up the good work Augie. Remember, finish every play. If the other guys are going 10 yards after a catch...you need to go 15 to 20 yards. Make sure they remember you. Have fun. We are proud of you. -Coach Sewell

Augie! I see you putting in work big man!!!!! At the end of the day, all you can ask for is an opportunity! You have that opportunity right in front of you. Update on Bengals' plans to sign tryout players

The Cincinnati Bengals had 25 unsigned players trying out for the team this past weekend, including Augie Agyei.  This item was posted on Bengals.com about tryout players:

"The Bengals didn’t sign any of the 25 tryout players Sunday, but that doesn’t mean they won’t in the next few days. There are background checks and other research involved before a paper would be tendered. Lewis did say the club is going to continue to look for free agents to add depth."

If Augie gets signed, visitors to GoThunderWolves.com will be the first to know!  Keep visiting to see any additional news!

Practice in Paul Brown Stadium

Another day with it's highs and lows.  In my opinion the difference is not necessarily how good you do something but it's how precise you can do it.

It was raining this morning so we practiced in the stadium instead of the the practice fields which is cool.  It would be crazy to see the whole thing filled! Practice has really just become practice now.  There is no more wondering what to expect.  I'm still grindin through trying to get used to learning the three different receiver positions which has been interesting.  We watched film between practices and after the second one. I have alot of stuff to polish up for tomorrow and make the last practice the best one!

End of the first day of mini-camp

530 am wake up for labs leaving the hotel at 6.  We had to get blood work done early in the morning. (another exciting morning...NOT). After that we had breakfast and meetings and then practice.

I felt like a freshman tryin to figure things out again.  Did wayyyy to much thinking which resulted in a not so good practice.  After practice we went straight to lunch and then back to meetings and then right back to practice. NFL NETWORK THINKS THEY HAVE 24hr football? Well they have NO IDEA!!

This practice I played much faster and much better than number 1.  Only 3 more practices left. Goal is to have 3 perfect practices!  6am wake up again but definitely would rather wake up for football than go to work!

Go #12!

Augie's familiar #21 may not be available with the Bengals, but he's playing the heck of #12, his number he was given at the Bengals' mini-camp.

Catch Augie in action in these videos posted by the Cincinnati Bengals' public relations department on Bengals.com.  Keep coming back and we'll post more videos as they appear!

Welcome to the Jungle

Today I woke up and was at DIA at 8 for a 10 am flight. I've never missed a flight but was definitely NOT gonna start today.

I met the defensive line coach at the airport where he took me and one of the Bengals' draft picks, Carlos Dunlap, to the stadium.  The afternoon was mostly pictures and physicals. (the most comprehensive physical I've ever taken).  I met some of the other rookies and happen to have Jordan Shipley, one of the receivers the Bengals drafted, as my locker neighbor.

The most surreal moment of my life was entering the gates of the stadium going to the areas that only players go.  It was also crazy to see my helmet and jersey in MY locker.  We ate dinner and had a team meeting.  With all the schools and teams that I've played on I've had multiple head coaches talk at meetings.  It was crazy to look up and now realize Marvin Lewis is addressing the team just like another coach.  After the team meeting we had position meetings where we went through the play book!  The extensive details that we have to know makes me understand why some people use the abbreviation NFL for "not for long"! O well it's just another play book.  I'm already understanding it.  Now just gotta put it together tomorrow for practice at 10. But now I gotta go to sleep for our 6am wake up! Gametime tomorrow!
