PUEBLO, Colo. (October 5, 2016) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Katie Burnett (Sr., Austin, Tex.) and Derrick Williams (Jr., Columbia Falls, Mont.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
Burnett, of the Pack volleyball team set a school record with 35 digs in a match, leading the Pack to a five-set win over UCCS. She broke Tessa Accomasso's record of 34 set Oct. 3, 2003. Burnett also contributed seven assists to the Pack's win.
With 21 digs Friday night, Burnett averaged 7.0 assists per weekend. She now holds school record for digs in a single match and digs in a three-set match. Burnett also leads the RMAC with 23 service aces. She now ranks second all-time at CSU-Pueblo with 1,348 career digs.
On the men's side, Williams was second in the Division II section of the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival, hosted by University of Arkansas.
He was 11th overall of 583 runners, which included 18 NCAA Division I teams, with an 8K time of 24:01.92 (4:50.2 average mile). The ThunderWolves finished second in the DII section (45 teams).
CSU-Pueblo volleyball (6-9, 4-2 RMAC) remains on the road this week as they travel to Colorado Mesa Friday for a match against the Mavericks. Saturday the Pack plays at Western State Colorado University at 7 p.m.
The cross country teams are off until the RMAC Championships, which is set for Oct. 22 in Spearfish, S.D.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
