PUEBLO, Colo. (October 19, 2016) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's April McDonough (Jr., Frisco, Tex.) and Brandon Payer (So., Pine, Colo.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
April McDonough (Jr., Frisco, Tex.) won both of her individual events in the Pack's dual against Western State. The junior captain defeated the field by almost two seconds in the 1000 free with a time of 11:06.68.
She returned to win the 500 free with a time of 5:27.27. Her time defeated her closest competition by over five seconds.
The Swim & Dive team travels to Las Cruces, N.M. this week and will compete against New Mexico State at 11 a.m.
On the men's side, Brandon Payer (So., Pine, Colo.) guided the Pack defense to a 33-12 Homecoming victory against Fort Lewis College Oct. 15 with 14 tackles (five solo), a half tackle for loss (-1 yard), his first interception of the season (returned four yards), a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry.
The CSU-Pueblo defense has kept its opponent to 12 points or less in four of the past five games.
Payer leads the team in tackles with 59 (28 solo) and is tied for the team lead with seven tackles for loss (-14 yards).
The ThunderWolves (4-3, 4-2 RMAC) head to Black Hills State (5-2, 5-2 RMAC) Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. in an important RMAC showdown in Spearfish, S.D.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
