PUEBLO, Colo. (January 18, 2017) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Molly Rohrer (So., Greenwood Village, Colo.) and Nelson Kahler (Sr., Noosa Heads, Australia) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
Rohrer anchored a dominating Pack defense this week that held both Metro State University Denver and University of Colorado Colorado Springs to 49 points as CSU-Pueblo improved to 17-0. Rohrer finished the week with six blocks, an average of 3.0 per game. She averaged 4.0 rebounds per game and a steal.
The sophomore denied the Roadrunners with four rejections Friday night as the Pack limited MSU Denver to just 23.4 5 from the field. She also scored 16 points to lead all players in the game and help the Pack to a 66-49 win.
One night later, Rohrer quieted UCCS' top ranked offense with another two blocks. Guarding UCCS' Tori Fisher and Brittany Hernandez ,she held the Mountain Lions duo to just 23.5 (4-for-17) percent from the field. Rohrer's presence kept UCCS out of the pain and held Fisher to 20 percent from the field when she normally makes 60 percent.
Thanks to Rohrer's efforts, the Pack held the top ranked Mountain Lions offense to a season low 49 points and a season-low 28.8 % from the field. Rohrer once again netted a game high 17 points.
Offensively Rohrer delivered 16.5 points per game for the week. She made 10-of-17 (.526) from the field. She also knocked down 12-of-15 free throws.
Rohrer leads the RMAC in blocks and ranks 22nd in the nation in blocks per game. With Rohrer leading the way, the Pack is one of just four unbeaten team left in D-II and holds a two-game lead on the rest of the RMAC.
On the men's side and for a second consecutive week, Kahler was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after guiding the Pack men to a 2-0 home weekend record.
In just 18 minutes per game he averaged 5.5 blocks and 5.0 rebounds per contest on the weekend. On the offensive end, Kahler averaged 11.5 points per game and shot 75 percent from the field.
The RMAC leader in blocks increased his lead with 11 last weekend, which included nine against University of Colorado Colorado Springs to tie the school record and rank tied for third in NCAA Division II this season. The mark is also an RMAC season best.
His 50 blocks this season is 28 more than second place in the RMAC and ranks tied for fourth in NCAA Division II. Kahler has swatted 114 shot attempts in his season and a half with the Pack to rank third on the school's all-time list.
Both squads return home to Massari Arena for an RMAC clash Saturday versus Colorado School of Mines. The women tipoff at 5:30 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
