PUEBLO, Colo. (September 20, 2017) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Courtney Ewing (Jr., Pueblo West, Colo.) and Brandon Payer (Jr., Pine, Colo.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
Ewing shot an incredible -2 (69) to vault up into a tie for second at the NCAA West Regional Preview. Ewing's performance Tuesday matched the rest round played in the tournament. She finished one stroke back of Addison Mitchell of Dallas Baptist University for the tournament win with a +2 (144).
The -2 performance was the best of Ewing's career, beating her 73 at the 2016 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. She had three birdies and 14 pars Tuesday. Ewing ranked in the top five on par threes, fours, and fives to post her career best -2.
As a team, the Pack finished tied for ninth with a cumulative score of 615 (+47). Their ninth place was tied for the best score posted by an a RMAC school with University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
On the men's side, Payer guided the ThunderWolves to a 34-14 road win at South Dakota Mines Saturday with eight tackles (four solo). He totaled three tackles for loss (-11 yards), which included a sack (-7) that forced a fumble.
Payer owns 28 tackles (19 solo) to lead the team and sit third in the RMAC. His five tackles for loss (-21 yards) is tied for first in the RMAC and ranks 37th nationally.
The golf team will next compete this week in the WNMU Fall Intercollegiate and the No. 19 Pack football team travels and play Saturday at New Mexico Highlands.
