PUEBLO, Colo. (October 11, 2017) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Melissa Nichols (Jr., McKinney, Tex.) and Neil Tillman (Sr., Arvada, Colo.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
Nichols stood tall defensively as she guided the Pack to a 1-1 week. The middle blocker denied 11 total attacks over eight sets , averaging 1.38 blocks per set. Offensively, Nichols knocked down seven kills per match.
On Friday night vs. Colorado Mesa University, Nichols swatted a season-high seven blocks with two solo stuffs. She also delivered seven kills and three digs. Saturday she picked up four more blocks to lead the Pack to their first home win of the season, a 3-1 win over Western State Colorado University. Nichols came through with seven kills and an ace in the win.
On the men's side, Tillman took third place and led the ThunderWolves to team championship at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Fall Preview.
The senior shot the tournament's lowest round with a -4 (67) Monday. With Tillman's 67 leading the way, the Pack carded their second lowest team score in program history with a -8 (276) at the Hillcrest Golf Club in Durango, Colo. On day two Tillman concluded his tournament with a +2 (73) to pace the Pack on their way to victory.
With Tillman leading the way, the ThunderWolves fought off the other nine teams with a + 5 (289) to finish the tournament at a -3 (565). The Pack bested their closest competition, University of Colorado Colorado Springs by four strokes.
The volleyball team goes on the road this week for matches at UCCS and MSU Denver. The men's golf team wrapped their fall schedule and will return to the green in the spring.
