PUEBLO, Colo. (September 12, 2018) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Rylie Martin (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Marchè Dennard (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
Martin has led the Pack women's soccer team to a 3-0-1 record to start the season. The Pack won their first two matches of the regular season at West Texas (2-0) and at Lubbock Christian (2-1).
Martin was a brick wall during the opening weekend. Against WT, Martin made six saves and faced 13 shots by the Lady Buffs. She made consecutive saves in a two-minute span to preserve the win.
Against LCU, Martin again played solid at the net and allowed one goal and made five saves in facing a plethora of shots in the last five minutes of regulation. In the game, Martin faced 17 shots and six on goal.
After the succuessful road trip, Martin was named the first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week of 2018.
In week two, the ThunderWolves opened their home portion of the schedule Sept. 7 on Dr. Dan Honor Roll Night and beat Midwestern State 3-1. Sunday against Fort Hays State, the Pack and Tigers battled to a 2-2 tie.
On the men's side, Dennard has guided the Pack football squad to a 2-0 record in the first two games.
In the season opener versus Dixie State, Dennard got his work in during the first half of a 56-14 Pack win and only needed five carries to post 132 yards and two scores (19- and 65-yard runs).
After the defense forced Dixie State off the field on its first possession, Dennard carried the ball four times during the Pack's opening drive and gathered 67 yards, which culminated with a 19-yard score. The first touchdown of the season came just 4:19 into the 2018 campaign.
In the Pack's second game at home against Chadron State, the run game was again the story for the offense, as the Pack rushed for 285 yards and four touchdowns in a 34-13 win over the Eagles. Dennard had his second 100-yard rushing game, as he collected 147 yards and three touchdowns on 13 carries. His long rush went for 70 yards and he averaged 11.3 yards per carry.
The women's soccer team opens RMAC play on the road this week Friday at UCCS and Sunday at No. 11 MSU Denver.
The football team starts a two-game road trip and travels to Golden, Colo. and plays Colorado Mines Saturday at 12 p.m.
