James Paul is entering his 18th year as the ThunderWolves head athletic trainer. He is the longest-tenured athletic trainer in CSU-Pueblo history, and has established himself, and his student-trainers, as one of the top staffs in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

Paul came to then-University of Southern Colorado in 1991, serving as head athletic trainer while an employee of the Southern Colorado Clinic. In 1993, Paul became an official university employee, and has been a staple with the athletic department ever since.

Paul oversees an athletic training program that has grown since his arrival in the early 90s, providing field experience for the university's exercise science majors as well as keep the 200-plus athletes of the university's athletic programs healthy and active.

In his time at CSU-Pueblo, he has been on the athletic training staff at each of the national tournament appearances made by ThunderWolves athletic programs, including two NCAA regional tournaments in baseball, two national tournaments in wrestling, and during the baseball team's College World Series appearance in 1996. While a student at the University of Utah, Paul was on the training staff for the 1986 NCAA Skiing Championships, the NCAA Midwest Regional Basketball Tournament and the NCAA National Gymnastics Championships.

Paul is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association, and is a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers Association and the Colorado Athletic Trainers Association. He also serves on the CATA public relations committee, reporting to the RMATA.

The Salt Lake City, Utah native and his wife, Alyce, have four children: Jamie, Addam, Tyler and Zachary; as well as eight grandchildren. He is an active member in the Boy Scouts of America, and sings in a quartet affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. On several occasions, Paul's quartet has sang the National Anthem at ThunderWolves sporting events. An avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family.
