Swanberg voted Athlete of the Week for Mar. 27, 2008
Before the 2008 season, pitching was supposed to be weakness of the ThunderWolves softball team. Kelsey Swanberg, a capable pitcher, was inconsistent at times as a number-two pitcher in 2007, and there were questions as to whether she could hold the mantle of the team's number-one.
Swanberg nipped that intimation in the bud early on this season, emerging as one of the top pitchers in the RMAC. In fact, Swanberg's effectiveness is on a national scale, as her mark of 0.07 walks allowed per inning ranks her as eighth in NCAA Division II in that category.
And last week, she proved that she is not about to let up from her impressive play in 2008.
She posted three wins in three starts against Nebraska-Kearney last weekend, posting a 1.65 ERA and striking out 15 batters in 17 innings, leading the Pack to a sweep of the Lopers for the first time in school history. Her performance was good enough to earn her the recognition of the RMAC as the conference's pitcher of the week - and it goes without saying that the visitors to GoThunderWolves.com also agree, voting Swanberg as the GoThunderWolves.com Athlete of the Week. Congratulations, Kelsey!
A NEW ATHLETE OF THE WEEK POLL WILL BE POSTED EVERY MONDAY THROUGH THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR! TO VOTE, VISIT THE FRONT PAGE OF THE THUNDERWOLVES WEBSITE AT http://www.gothunderwolves.com/.
