Bovard voted Athlete of the Week for May 1, 2008

In 2008, the ThunderWolves baseball team's lineup card has been in flux.  There have been several different guys inserted at shortstop, third base, and even a few ripples in the orientation of the team's three outfielders.

But junior centerfielder Rutger Bovard knows none of that.  Whenever Bovard has been healthy in 2008, it was given that he'd be the quarterback of the outfield, manning the good 'ol "eight" position, and batting leadoff for the ThunderWolves.

From the leadoff spot last week, Bovard did something number-one guys aren't supposed to do - he hit home runs! And big ones, to boot.

In the Pack's 24-5 win over Colorado Mines Sunday, Bovard connected on a grand slam, part of a 7 RBI day for him.

It capped a week that saw Bovard hit .519, hitting two home runs and logging 15 RBI.  It was good enough to get him named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Player of the Week ... and it should go without saying, he was voted the CSU-Pueblo Athlete of the Week for May 1, 2008 by the visitors to GoThunderWolves.com.

A NEW ATHLETE OF THE WEEK POLL WILL BE POSTED EVERY MONDAY THROUGH THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR!  TO VOTE, VISIT THE FRONT PAGE OF THE THUNDERWOLVES WEBSITE AT http://www.gothunderwolves.com/.

The final vote:

Casey Brock, Men's Golf (Finished 3rd at Northwest Regional) (13) 11%

Rutger Bovard, Baseball (Hit .519 w/2HR, 15 RBI in six games) (57) 48%

Amber Higby, Softball (Went 2-0 with 1.79 ERA in three games)) (26) 22%

Joe Proto, Baseball (Went 2-0 with 1.80 ERA in three games)) (21) 17%
