Pueblo, Colo. (February 3, 2016) - Colorado State University-Pueblo's Bailey Hughes (Jr., Bigfork, Mont.) and JaCobi Jones (So., Omaha, Neb.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Mobile Record Shredders.
Hughes posted two NCAA marks at the CSM Division II Invite, as she helped the Distance Medley Relay team run a converted time of 11:50.55, which was second in the race and currently ranks second on the national qualifying list. The mark is also the second-fastest in school history.
Individually, Hughes won for the third time in as many weeks, as she outpaced the field in the 3000m. The junior finished with a converted time of 9:48.90, which moved her to 11th in Division II.
Sophomore Jones of Pack wrestling earned the title of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Champion at 157, Sunday, as he guided the Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team to a tie for fourth place at the RMAC Wrestling Championships.
Jones, who is ranked fourth nationally, went 3-0 with two major decisions (10-0 and 10-2) in his trail to the championship bout.
In the final against Jason Buhr of Colorado Mesa University, Jones posted a 12-9 decision. Jones, the No. 1 ranked wrestler in Super Region Four, battled Buhr, the fourth ranked athlete, to a 4-2 lead in the first period. Following a busy second period, the bout was tied 8-8. Jones took care of the third period and was 4-1 to take home the title and improve to 19-7 this season.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
