Sleeping giant wakes up vs. ThunderWolves
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - CSU-Pueblo couldn't continue its hot streak after last week's RMAC Championship run, watching a 3-0 first-inning lead evaporate as Mesa State scored a 17-6 win over the ThunderWolves at the NCAA Division II Central Regionals.
A three-run first-inning bomb by Jason Fobes (Sr., Longmont, Colo.) gave CSU-Pueblo a 3-0 lead. But Mesa State hung seven runs on the ThunderWolves in the second inning. In all, Mesa State hit five home runs in their home park, putting CSU-Pueblo in a situation it faced in last week's RMAC Tournament - having to win all its remaining games through the losers' bracket to claim a regional title.
CSU-Pueblo will take on Minnesota State-Mankato at noon tomorrow in an elimination game. MSU-Mankato lost 11-3 to Southwest Minnesota State. The Mavericks were the two-seed.
