Doubleheader split leads to series loss to Regis
Game 1: CSU-Pueblo 7, Regis 2
Game 2: Regis 9, CSU-Pueblo 3
The ThunderWolves split a doubleheader with Regis Saturday, falling in the three-game series two games to one against the squad that entered the weekend with the worst record in the RMAC.
After an encouraging win to open the day, riding a great but short start from Josh Herback-South (Sr., Regina, SK, Canada), who held the Rangers scoreless through four innings of work and a stellar relief appearance by Wes Oliver (Sr., Ridgecrest, Calif.), who pitched the game's final five frames, CSU-Pueblo dominated in a 7-2 win. Jon Proesl (Sr., California City, Calif.) and Austin Roff (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) nailed their second home runs of the weekend while Kyle Wager (Jr., Globe, Ariz.) went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBI.
But the Pack's fortunes slipped in the second game, as Joaquin Montano (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) didn't record one out in the first inning as Regis put up six in the opening frame, leaving the ThunderWolves to play catch up for the entire game. Trailing the entire game, the Pack bats could only muster three runs on seven hits.
The split drops the Pack to 6-7 this season and 1-2 in conference play. The Pack will look to find some consistency this weekend when it travels to Nebraska-Kearney for its second RMAC series of the season.
