Sanchez, Roff earn regional gold gloves
CSU-Pueblo infielders received recognition Thursday when second baseman Mike Sanchez (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) and third baseman Austin Roff (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) each were recognized with the NCAA Division II Central Region Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches' Association Gold Glove Award as second-team selections.
Sanchez, a four-year starter at second base for the Pack, hit .368 last season, second highest batting average on the team, and was ranked as the hardest player to strike out in all of NCAA Division II. For all his success with the bat, he was even better with his glove. He committed just six errors for the Pack and was recognized as a second-team all-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference selection.
Roff, a part-time starter at third base this season, committed just seven errors at third base, hitting .341 with three home runs in 2010.
Both Sanchez and Roff become the first ThunderWolves to win the Central Region Gold Glove award. This season, for the first time, the Rawlings/ABCA Gold Glove Award program was expanded to include a first and second team in each of NCAA Division II's eight regions.
