Valenzuela-led Pack cruises past Regis
Pack first baseman logs six RBI in 13-5 win.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - March 6, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo bats were in full swing Tuesday during a non-conference showdown with Regis, logging 17 hits in a convincing 13-5 win over the Rangers.
Jovany Valenzuela (Jr., Tucson, Ariz.) continued to establish himself as the Pack's middle-of-the-order gem, going 3-for-3 and logging six RBI, falling a double short of the cycle. Three of his RBI came on a three-run bomb over the rightfield fence in the first inning, which vaulted the Pack to its first lead of the afternoon, 3-2, a lead it wouldn't relinquish.
Valenzuela certainly wasn't alone in the hitting display as Chase Lacomb (Jr., Las Vegas, Nev.) went 3-for-4, scoring four runs and recording one of the ThunderWolves' four triples on the afternoon.
Three other ThunderWolves also turned in multi-hit games, including catcher Chris Schindler (Jr., San Mateo, Calif.), who recorded two RBI as well.
On the bump, CSU-Pueblo went with a pre-determined cycle of pitchers for the midweek game, starting with Sean Gavin (Jr., Canyon Country, Calif.), who notched the win in hurling the first three innings.
Six other pitchers each got one full inning of work, combining to give up three runs on six hits over the final six innings.
CSU-Pueblo will get back to its RMAC schedule Friday, when it hosts Colorado Mesa at Rawlings Field for the first night game of the season. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
