GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 28, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo's bad luck against Colorado Mesa continued Friday as it suffered a doubleheader sweep to the Mavericks.
The Pack fell 8-2 in the opener Saturday before losing the late game 5-4 on a walk-off.
CSU-Pueblo could only ding 10-2 Mesa starter Jared Christensen for two runs on eight hits in the opening game. The Pack fell 5-0 after two innings and couldn't recover.
In the late game, however, the Pack recovered from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game at three in the fifth inning. It would take its first lead on a throwing error in the sixth, scoring Mike Knueppel (Jr., Mesa, Ariz.) from second as the ThunderWolves went up 4-3.
Mesa would tie it up in the bottom of the sixth inning, then take the lead and the win in dramatic fashion as the Mavericks recorded three straight singles in the bottom of the 7th, including the RBI from Mitch Corwin, as Mesa took the win.
CSU-Pueblo will try to salvage one game in the series Sunday as the series concludes with a noon first pitch.
