Pack Baseball returns home for pod with Adams State and NMHU

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 6, 2017) After a month away from Rawlings Field, Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball returns home to host a pod against Adams State University and New Mexico Highlands University Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The Pack will play the Grizzlies Friday at 1 p.m. to kickoff the weekend pod. CSU-Pueblo is back in action Saturday at 1 p.m. with a clash against the Cowboys. The ThunderWolves conclude their four-game weekend with a doubleheader Sunday. The Pack will face NMHU at 12 p.m. and play the Grizzlies at 3 p.m.

With a nine-team conference, the Pack took last week off and return to the diamond with a 13-17 record. They own a 7-9 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games.

Kyle Lazcano (Sr., Anaheim Hills, Calif.) remains one the RMAC's most dominant starters. Lazcano ranks second in the RMAC with a 2.50 ERA. His 58 strikeouts continue to lead the conference. Lazcano has also tossed a league-best  54.0 innings. He brings a 4-0 record into his probable start against the Grizzlies Friday.

Shortstop Brandon Castaneda (Sr., Azusa, Calif.) leads the Pack's offense with a .405 average, fifth best in the RMAC. He remains one of the toughest batters in D-II to strikeout. With just three Ks in 116 at bats, Castaneda is the seventh toughest batter to strike out in the nation. Castaneda hit .600 (9-for-15) in the Pack's series against Colorado Mesa University.

Ambrose Romero (Jr., C, Albuquerque, N.M.) ranks fifth in the RMAC with 29 RBIs. Romero leads the Pack with a .455 on base percentage. His two home runs also tops the Pack.

First baseman Gilbert Sauceda (So., Indio, Calif.)has drawn the most walks in the RMAC, with 20 free passes. Sauceda ranks eighth in the RMAC with a .988 fielding percentage.

Leadoff hitter, Zach Hoffman (Jr., South Jordan, Utah) has slugged a league-high five triples. His 10 stolen bases place him fourth in the RMAC. Hoffman is hitting .368 on the season.

This weekend's series offers the Pack a chance to move up from sixth place in the conference standings. The Cowboys bring a 10-21(6-14 RMAC) record into the weekend, while the Grizzlies stand 10-20 (4-12 RMAC). NMHU and Adams State stand eighth and ninth respectively in the RMAC standings.
