COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (January 29, 2018) –The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference released its annual preseason baseball coaches poll Monday and Colorado State University-Pueblo Baseball was predicted to finish in a tie fourth. Pack seniors Chris Devery and Zach Hoffman received Preseason All-RMAC accolades.
The RMAC's Preseason Poll and All-RMAC teams are voted on by RMAC coaches. Conference Coaches ranking the Pack fourth matches their finish from the 2017 season, when the Pack went 17-16 in RMAC play and 23-26 overall. They are predicted to finish tied for fourth with their Steel & Silver rivals University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
Devery (Saugus, Calif.) was tabbed Preseason All-RMAC as an infielder. The Pack's third baseman ranked fourth in the RMAC with a .478 on-base percentage in 2017. Devery earned NCBWA Regional Player of the Week honors and was named RMAC Player of the Week after he drove in 16 runs, batted .556, and slugged 1,222 with two home runs, four doubles, and a triple in the Pack's final regular season series at Adams State University. Devery hit .387 in 137 at bats and brought in 34 runs.
Hoffman (South Jordan, Utah) received a Preseason All-RMAC selection as an outfielder. The senior started all 49 games for the Pack last season. Hoffman Led the RMAC with seven triples. The Pack's center fielder placed third in the conference with 16 stolen bases.
The Pack's leadoff hitter ranked sixth in the RMAC with 72 hits in 203 at bats. Hoffman batted .355 with two home runs and 31 RBI. He scored a team-best 46 runs. Though he played most of his games in center field, Hoffman made seven appearances on the mound with six starts. He is expected to be in the rotation for the Pack this season. Hoffman went 2-2 with a 7.33 ERA in 27.0 innings.
This season will be the Pack's 25th since the restart in 1993. Over those 25 seasons, Pack Head Coach Stan Sanchez has set an RMAC record with 807 career wins. The Pack has a .605 winning percentage in the 25 years since the program restart.
CSU-Pueblo Baseball will start the season this Friday at 1 p.m. when they play West Texas A&M at Rawlings Field. The Pack will play the Buffaloes again Saturday at 3p.m. The Pack also faces Adams State Sunday at 3 p.m. as part of a 10-game homestand to open the season.
