Jansen heads Pack in RMAC postseason awards
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - CSU-Pueblo freshmen defensive lineman Grant Jansen (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was selected the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's defensive freshman of the year, joined by three teammates that were selected all-RMAC Wednesday.
Jansen's defensive line mate, Chase Vaughn (Jr., Aurora, Colo.) was the ThunderWolves' lone first-team all-RMAC selection, earning the recognition after a 10.5 sack season, a CSU-Pueblo record, and sixth most in the nation.
The ThunderWolves enjoyed two additional selections: Markus Turner (Jr., Peoria, Ariz.) at punt returner on the second team, and Jerome Page (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) at cornerback on the third team.
Turner was third in the RMAC with 234 punt return yards, and was one of only two punt returners to have a punt return touchdown this season.
Page was the Pack's top force in the secondary this season, logging 44 tackles, best on the team among defensive backs, and snagging two interceptions.
The ThunderWolves finished their 2008 season at 4-6, their first time fielding a football program since 1984. The Pack's 4-6 mark was the second best in NCAA history among schools who had forged a new program in less than one calendar year.
