ThunderWolves tee off on Mustangs 48-3

PUEBLO, Colo. (Oct. 31, 2009) - In front of newly-enshrined CSU-Pueblo Hall of Famers during Saturday's Hall of Fame Game vs. Western New Mexico, CSU-Pueblo's offense went off on Western New Mexico, posting a school-record 620 yards of total offense, 435 on the ground, as the Pack scored a nearly-perfect 48-3 victory over the Mustangs.

Tailback Jesse Lewis (So., Loveland, Colo.) turned in his fourth-straight 100-yard game with a career-high 233 yards, roaring for three touchdowns in leading the ThunderWolves' rushing attack.  Backfield-mate Jamaal Johnson (So., Fountain, Colo.) ran for a career-high of his own, going for 164 yards on 16 carries for two touchdowns. 

Quarterback Colin Clancy (Sr., Longmont, Colo.) was stellar, going 13-for-17 for 147 yards and two touchdowns.  He eclipsed coach John Wristen's single-season total yardage record of 1,761, and did it on a pass play out of the "ThunderWolf" formation, as Johnson hit Clancy down the sideline for a 38-yard pass play.  He also tied a school record for touchdown passes, held by Bart Stevens, with his 13th and 14th touchdown tosses of the season.

But as stellar as the Pack was offensively, it was just as much so defensively.  Facing a Western New Mexico offense 33.9 points per game, 24th-highest in the nation, CSU-Pueblo held the Mustangs to just three points and 244 yards of total offense, the second-lowest offensive showing of the season by the Mustangs.  During the team's "Senior Day," Chase Vaughn (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) teed off in his final home game, collecting eight tackles, 2-1/2 tackles for loss, one sack, a forced fumble and three quarterback hurries. 

CSU-Pueblo's win clinches a winning season for the Pack, the first since 1983, as they improve to 6-4 facing their final game of the season next week at Adams State.
