Mathews racks up another honor
Mathews becomes second ThunderWolf to earn NFFCC honor in 2011.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 11, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo freshman tailback J.B. Mathews (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) was again named a player of the week Tuesday, this time by the National Football Foundation's Colorado Chapter.
Mathews, who racked up 216 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in the ThunderWolves 23-6 win over Colorado School of Mines in front of a national television audience, became the ThunderWolves leading freshman all-purpose runner with his monstrous day, surpassing teammate Jesse Lewis (Sr., Loveland, Colo.), whose freshman season was in 2008. Mathews scored the ThunderWolves' only three touchdowns in the game, and became the first Pack player not named Jesse Lewis to score three times since the football program was resurrected in 2008.
Mathews is the second ThunderWolf to earn NFFCC Player of the Week honors this season. Sept. 20, Lewis earned the honor.
