WACO, Texas (August 17, 2015) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo football team earned the No. 2 ranking in the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II Preseason Poll, released Monday. The ThunderWolves picked up the most first-place votes with 16 and finished just four total points behind No. 1 Minnesota State University, Mankato.
The Pack (14-1 in 2014) defeated Minnesota State 13-0 in the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship game. MSU totaled 751 points in the poll with nine first-place votes, while CSU-Pueblo gathered 747 points.
The AFCA poll is voted upon by the Division II Board of Coaches, which has 32 voters representing all Division II conferences, as well as independent schools.
The ThunderWolves open the 2015 season hosting Central Washington University, which is receiving votes in the poll. The Pack welcome the Wildcats to the ThunderBowl Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. The game is set to be broadcasted by the American Sports Network and air live on Alititude2.
Two other CSU-Pueblo opponents appeared on the poll. The Pack travel to West Texas A&M University, who is also receiving votes, Sept. 12, then host No. 18 Colorado School of Mines Oct. 24 at 2 p.m.
The ThunderWolves began fall camp Thursday. The Pack host the annual ThunderPups Clinic Aug. 22 from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and will wrap fall camp with a scrimmage at 9:45 a.m., which is free and open to the public.
