CSU-Pueblo Football will battle Minnesota State to open NCAA Playoffs


INDIANAPOLIS (November 12, 2017) - Round one of the 2017 NCAA Division II Playoffs will feature a rematch from the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship game, as the No. 23 Colorado State University-Pueblo football team will head to No. 1 Minnesota State University, Mankato for a Nov. 18 battle in Mankato, Minnesota.

CSU-Pueblo earned the No. 7 seed in Super Region Four, while Minnesota State was the No. 2 seed. Game time is set for 11 a.m. MT at Blakeslee Stadium.

The Pack are making their fifth appearance in the NCAA Division II Playoffs and first since 2014 (2015 appearance was removed from the record due to a self-reported NCAA violation). The only meeting with the Mavericks came in that national title game where CSU-Pueblo won 13-0.

The ThunderWolves went 9-2 overall and 9-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play to share the RMAC title with Colorado Mesa University, the team's sixth conference title in the last seven years. In the last four games the ThunderWolves are outscoring their opponent 37-5.8. The defense finished fourth nationally in interceptions with 21 and were 10th in scoring defense after allowing 14.3 points per game. 

Minnesota State finished the season with a perfect 11-0 record. The Mavericks finished the regular season 10th nationally in scoring with 42 points per game and were sixth in scoring defense after allowing just 13.6 points per game.
