Former Air Force Academy assistant coach, Tom Miller, was hired in September as assistant head coach and defensive line coach.

Miller had been a key assistant to former USAFA head football coach, Fisher DeBerry, for 24 years. Prior to DeBerry's retirement following the 2005 season, Miller was the special teams coordinator for the Falcons. He had also served in other capacities with the Falcons, including as coach of strong safeties, outside linebackers, and as defensive line coach, where he coached perhaps the most decorated football alum the university had ever had, former NFL player and Outland Trophy recipient, Chad Hennings. While on the Falcons' staff, Miller was on the coaching staff for 14 bowl games. He was also once nominated for Assistant Coach of the Year.

Miller is a 1969 graduate of Cortland State where he earned his bachelor's degree in physical education. He later earned a master's in physical education in 1972 from Bridgeport. While at Cortland State, Miller lettered in football three years. He also lettered one year in track.

Miller began his coaching career at Glens Falls High School in 1969, helping the team to an 8-2 record. In 1970, he moved to Ravena High School and helped the team to a 17-2 mark. Miller's collegiate career began at Bridgeport in 1972 when he served as a defensive line and offensive line coach. In 1974, he went to Davidson College where he coached until 1982. While at Davidson, Miller coached the offensive line, defensive ends and defensive line. Miller coached at The Citadel in 1982 for one year before moving to Dartmouth.

At the Air Force Academy, Miller's teams had been among the nation's best at blocking kicks. In 1997, the Falcons set a school record with 11 blocked kicks. The team blocked 59 kicks in the 1990s, the second- most in the nation.

He and his wife, Pat, have two sons, Bo and Michael, and one daughter, Emily.
