Childress snags RMAC Player of the Week honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference
has announced that ThunderWolves' basketball players, Chris
Childress and Sarah Staggs, have been named the RMAC
Western Division players of the week.
It is the first time since January 20, 2004 that two ThunderWolves
players have earned the honor in the same week (Matt Brooks, Nadia
Fercha). As was the case that week in 2004, Childress and Staggs
both proved to be catalyst in their teams earning two wins in the
week's games.
Staggs helped the ThunderWolves to wins over Adams State Tuesday
and Western State Thursday, leading the team in scoring both
nights. Against Adams, Staggs netted 16 points, adding five
rebounds and two blocks. In the following game against Western
State, Staggs led all scorers with 14 points.
Childress showed prowess on both sides of the court in leading the
Pack to wins over Adams State and Western State, averaging a
double-double over the two games. Childress led the ThunderWolves
in scoring with 14 points against Adams, adding seven rebounds in
the process. Against Western State, Childress was unstoppable on
the boards, logging a career-high 13 rebounds and scoring six
points.
It marks the first time either player has earned the RMAC Player of
the Week honor. It marks the second time for each program that
ThunderWolves players have earned player of the week honors this
season (Julien Franklin on Jan. 21; Lindsay Black on Jan. 7).
