Mesa State gains revenge on ThunderWolves
The Mesa State Mavericks were able to even up the head to head
battle with the Thunderwolves by beating the Thunderwolves by a
score of 82-62.
The Thunderwolves were able to win the first meeting Feb. 2 but it
was a different story Friday.
The Mavericks got out to an early lead of 15-3, but the
Thunderwolves were able to come back and close the lead to 10 going
into halftime down 33-23
The Thunderwolves were able to get hot from time to time but were
unable to stop the play of Mavericks forward Jake Swartzendruber
who had a total of 17 points shooting 8-9 from the field. Coming
off the bench with 16 points was Ryan Mathews of Mesa State to back
up Swartzendruber.
Rome Smith was the high scorer for the Thunderwolves from which he
went 4-7 from behind the arch and scored a total of 19 points. He
also had 4 defensive rebounds to back up his performance. Meanwhile
the big man Chris Childress scored 10 points while bringing down
seven boards.
The CSUP men kept the score pretty close through most of the game
considering they did shot 38.9 percent from the field while only
shooting 42.9 percent from beyond the three point line.
Mesa State was able to hold off the many charges from the
Thunderwolves with good defensive stops and by shooting 56.5
percent from the field as a team. They also shot 50 percent from
behind the arch in the win.
The Thunderwolves made this a close game but in the end the Mesa
State Mavericks just shot too well on there home court and were
able to pull away. They simply answered everything the
Thunderwolves threw at them with a big shot.
Losing against the Mavericks the Thunderwolves are now on a three
game losing streak.
