ThunderWolves secure date with D-I Marquette
PUEBLO, Colo. - It's not often that a Division II team like CSU-Pueblo is able to take on a top 25 Division I team, but that is what the ThunderWolves will do on Nov. 8 when they travel to Milwaukee, Wisc. to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles.
The ThunderWolves have secured an exhibition matchup with Marquette, who finished the 2007-08 season ranked in the top 25 in the Associated Press Top 25 and NCAA Coaches' Poll.
"Playing Marquette is a great thing for the men's basketball program at CSU-Pueblo," head coach Pat Eberhart said. "The level of competition we'll see from Marquette will be unlike anything other teams in the RMAC will face this season, and it can only help us as we look to become the RMAC's top basketball program."
The matchup was set up by Eberhart and new Marquette head coach, Buzz Williams, who was an assistant with Eberhart when both were at Colorado State University from 2001 to 2004.
The matchup marks the sixth consecutive season that the men's basketball team has taken on a Division I school in the exhibition season. In the team's seven exhibition contests against Division I schools since 2003, the ThunderWolves are 1-6, their only win coming in an 84-46 win over the University of Denver on Nov. 4, 2006.
It marks the first time in school history that the ThunderWolves have taken on a Division I team that is ranked in the top 25 in national polls.
