Pack's Smith selected RMAC Player of the Week
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Fresh off of his career-high 32-point performance Saturday vs. Oklahoma Panhandle State, CSU-Pueblo senior Rome Smith (Sr., Denver, Colo.) has been selected the RMAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the RMAC announced Monday.
Smith's career night against Oklahoma Panhandle State (W, 69-66 overtime) Saturday night was the highest individual point total by a ThunderWolf in two seasons. He added three steals and seven rebounds in the extra period win. Smith shined in the overtime period, scoring seven of his 32 points while coming through with two defensive boards and two steals in leading the Pack to the win.
Against Northern New Mexico (W, 71-51) Tuesday, notched seven points followed by nine points against West Texas A&M (L, 59-71) Friday.
Smith is leading the ThunderWolves in scoring so far this season with 16.8 points per game, the 10th highest mark in the RMAC.
Smith will share the Player of the Week honor with his counterpart from the Pack women's team, Michelle Ambuul. It marks the first time since Jan. 28, 2008, when Sarah Staggs and former Pack player Chris Childress took the honors, that the ThunderWolves have secured player of the week honors on both the men's and women's teams.
