Busch leads Pack in win over Regis
DENVER, Colo. - Mama Busch would be proud.
In a non-conference battle that featured brothers Chris Busch (Sr., Oakland, Calif.) from CSU-Pueblo and Matt Busch from Regis, both had one of their top collegiate games as the ThunderWolves won 83-74 in a non-conference matchup.
Busch went for his second career double-double, going for 16 points and 14 rebounds, also a career high, while his brother, Matt, also went for 16 points. The brotherly throw down was at its apex in the second half, when Chris went for 10 points and Matt scored 12 as the Pack made its push for the lead. What Chris had that Matt didn't was four other teammates also scoring in double digits, including 16 by Marc Williams (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) as the Pack relied on a second half surge to record the win.
Tied at 32 at halftime, CSU-Pueblo began shooting lights out, netting an amazing 72 percent of its field goal attempts in the second half. The Pack needed the rock to fall at a high percentage, facing a Regis team that was shooting well itself at a 52 percent clip for the game. The Pack opened up the second half powerfully, scoring 28 points in the half's first eight minutes, hitting their first eight field goals of the half and 12 of their first 14 shots. The offensive explosion allowed the Pack to build a 15-point lead by the 12 minute mark.
Regis did make it interesting, making up the shortfall by going on an 11-4 run that brought the Rangers within three with two minutes remaining. But a pair of drives to the bucket by backcourt mates Dwayne Wright (Sr., Seattle, Wash.) and Roman Van Allen (Sr., Los Angeles, Calif.), put CSU-Pueblo up by seven and sealed the game.
CSU-Pueblo's win marks its second straight and lifts their 2009-10 mark to 8-2, its best start since 2003-04. CSU-Pueblo will re-enter conference play for good this weekend when it travels to Colorado School of Mines and Colorado Christian
