ThunderWolves close out season with win over Christian
LAKEWOOD, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 26, 2011) - Though the season may have been disappointing, CSU-Pueblo left it all out on the floor Saturday night, using tenacious defense to claim a 69-55 win over Colorado Christian.
CSU-Pueblo used a pair of big first half runs to take the lead and never lose it, going on a 10-0 run, then an 11-0 run, as CSU-Pueblo brought a commanding yet tenuous 32-27 lead into halftime.
The Cougars did keep it close, but the Pack relied on its strong defense to keep Colorado Christian at bay. The ThunderWolves pounded the glass, out-boarding Christian 41 to 25, and holding the Cougars to just a 31 percent shooting percentage, forcing the longball-happy Cougars outside to attempt far too many three-pointers.
CSU-Pueblo, meanwhile, hit 45 percent of its shots and got a big game down low from Kris Lawrie (Sr., Gardena, Calif.), who shined in his final game in a ThunderWolf uniform, coming away with 14 points and nine rebounds.
CSU-Pueblo finishes the season with an 11-15 record, out of the running for an RMAC playoff spot for the second time in the past four seasons. In addition to Lawrie, the ThunderWolves waved goodbye to just one other senior, Daniel Pierce (Sr., Edgewood, N.M.), who had 20 points in his swan song game in a ThunderWolf uniform.
