Tommie Johnson is entering his third season as an assistant
coach on the CSU-Pueblo men's basketball staff.
Johnson came to CSU-Pueblo from Colorado College, where he
coached for one season for the Tigers. Prior, he spent three
seasons as an assistant coach at Cheyenne Mountain High School in
Colorado Springs, Colo., where he was a women's assistant coach for
two years before joining the men's staff as an assistant and head
junior varsity coach for the 2005-06 campaign.
Johnson began his collegiate career as a point guard at Otero
Junior College in La Junta, Colo. and helped the team to
back-to-back South Region IX championships in 1999 and 2000. He
transferred to UC-Colorado Springs and helped lead the Mountain
Lions to their first-ever RMAC Tournament appearance in
2000.
Originally from Dallas, Tex., Johnson started his prep career
playing football and basketball at Ellison High School in Killeen,
Texas, and played one year at Ft. Knox High School in Ft. Knox, Ky.
where he was the starting quarterback and safety for the 1991 2A
state championship team.
Johnson, who works for Hewlett Packard Corporation, was active in
summer basketball as the head coach of the girls Colorado Bounce
club team from 2002-2005 and for the Colorado Force boy's team from
2005 - 2008.
Johnson and his wife, Africa, are the proud parents of one
daughter, Tomia.
