Two ThunderWolves in top five after first day at Desert Hawk
PUEBLO - Pack golfers David Duarte and Derek Carleo found
themselves in third and fifth place, respectively, after the second
round of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament, being
held at the Desert Hawk Golf Course in Pueblo West.
During a day marked by three play stoppages dealt by midday
thunderstorms, Duarte and Carleo had strong outings on the soggy
course during the second round. Duarte equaled his first round
score of 73 in the second round, ending the day in third place with
a +2. Carleo shot a 76 in the first round, but turned it around to
post one of the field's best scores, a second round 71, to end with
a +3 going into the third round Tuesday.
Duarte and Carleo headlined a ThunderWolves squad that finished the
day in third place, 20 strokes behind leader Western New Mexico.
WNMU also boasted the top two finishers after two rounds, Greg Pool
(-4) and Marcus Molina (-1).
"We were disappointed in our first round scores, but we gutted it
out and played better in the rainy conditions," Pack golf coach Ray
Makloski said. "We expected to do well, especially on our own
course."
The tournament ends Tuesday, with the third round beginning at 7:30
a.m. at Desert Hawk.
