Pack golfers left behind in competitive tourney
GOODYEAR, Ariz. - You wouldn't know it from the boxscore, but
the CSU-Pueblo men's golf team kept up therir consistent play, but
unfortunately finished 17th out of 18 teams at the Grand Canyon
Fall Invitational.
The Pack's most consistent golfer this season, David Duarte, shot a
-1 in the tournament, a mark that is usually good enough to be in
the top five at Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tourneys. But
Duarte finished in 25th place, a full 15 strokes off behind the
tournament champion, Western Washington's Jake Kuppenberg.
Duarte's mark was the sixth best among RMAC competitors, eight
strokes behind Western New Mexico's Greg Pool, who put up a -9.
Ben Scully, a freshman who is rising quickly in the Pack's golfing
ranks, put up a +5 in a 48th place effort.
Other Pack golfers included Casey Brock (+9 65th), Jeff Johnson
(+18 83rd), and Derek Carleo (+30 89th).
