ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Headlined by top 20 finishes by Brandon McCoy (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and David Duarte (Sr., Fountain, Colo.), CSU-Pueblo finished fifth out of ten teams at the Western New Mexico University Mustang Intercollegiate, held in Albuquerque, N.M.
McCoy, along with Duarte, were both tied for 9th place in the 53-man field after one round of play Monday with an even-par 72, but saw their stock take a hit as both were unable to match their first round output for the remainder of the tourney.
Both hovered around +3 for during their final two rounds, as McCoy finished 15th with a +6 222, and Duarte turned in a +7 223 for 18th place.
As a team, CSU-Pueblo, which was fourth after two rounds Monday, took a slight tumble Tuesday, finishing tied for fifth. Out of the five RMAC teams competing at the tournament, CSU-Pueblo was third (behind Fort Lewis and Western New Mexico).
With the first golf event of the spring under their belts, CSU-Pueblo will next depart to Phoenix, Ariz. Mar. 30 for the Grand Canyon Invitational.
