AURORA, Colo. - The ThunderWolves enjoyed their finest tournament of the season Monday and Tuesday, finishing 4th in the 12-team Colorado Mines/Regis Invitational.
CSU-Pueblo, which hadn't finished higher than 9th in any tournament thus far in 2009, saw two ThunderWolves turn in top ten finishes - Brandon McCoy (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Chad Novak (So., Pueblo, Colo.).
McCoy finished fifth overall, his third-highest tournament finish of his career, shooting a +1 145 in the 36-hole tournament. McCoy's finish was the second-highest among the 25 RMAC golfers in the tournament.
Novak, who was threatening for the tournament championship after shooting a first-round 71 and sitting in 5th place, dropped off a bit with a second-round 75. He remained in the top ten by finishing ninth, the third best score among RMAC golfers at the tournament. His stroke average of 73 over the two rounds breaks a collegiate personal best for the second consecutive tournament.
The Pack's strong finish will leave a good taste in the team's mouth as it exits the fall portion of its season. The Pack will resume its schedule in the spring.
