Pack finishes 8th at Peaks Classic
ThunderWolves finish 5th highest among RMAC teams at season's first conference event.
LA VETA, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 14, 2010) - The ThunderWolves cut three strokes off its second round total in the final round of the Peaks Classic, the first RMAC men's golf event of the season, but it wasn't enough to climb the leaderboard as the Pack stayed in 8th.
CSU-Pueblo shot a 302, tied for the seventh-best team score in the third round, but couldn't make up the 30-shot disadvantage it held behind eventual champion, UC-Colorado Springs, finishing fifth among the 10 RMAC teams assembled at the event.
The Peaks Classic is the first of four RMAC men's golf events of the season, which will be used to figure cumulative scores and decide a conference champion in April.
Four of the Pack's five entrants cut strokes from their second-round output, each shooting better than 80 in the third round. But only one, Jonathon Park (Fr., Denver, Colo.) managed to secure a top 20 finish, finishing 13th despite falling five strokes behind his second-round 71.
The Pack will take a week off before hitting the links again for the second RMAC event, this time hitting an RMAC/NSIC conference crossover event in Gothenburg, Neb. on Sept. 26-27.
