Late slide drops Pack out of contention at Cactus Thaw
CSU-Pueblo finishes 5th among RMAC teams, drops to tie for 4th place in RMAC standings.
SILVER CITY, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 19, 2010) - After starting the day with a chance to finish as high as second at the Cactus Thaw in Silver City, N.M., the third RMAC tournament of the season, CSU-Pueblo fell back to the rest of the Pack after a down back-nine, finishing 7th in the 15-team tournament.
CSU-Pueblo was 5th among the 10 RMAC teams at the tournament, and as a result of the middle-of-the-pack finish, the ThunderWolves fell from third place in the RMAC standings to a tie for 4th place with Western New Mexico.
Individually, the ThunderWolves got a hot tournament from true freshman Jonathan Park (Fr., Denver, Colo.), who finished in the top 10 for the second consecutive tournament. The RMAC Freshman of the Year candidate shot a collegiate-best 219 over three rounds, equalling his low collegiate round of 70 in the first round. He sat in fourth place in the 75-member field for most of the day until he faded on the back nine and turned in a 75.
CSU-Pueblo will now take the fall off before hitting the links again in the spring. The final RMAC tournament of the year will take place on April 18 in Phoenix, Ariz., and several to-be-scheduled non-conference tournaments will be announced soon.
