COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 20, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo junior Chad Novak (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.), fresh off his RMAC Spring Championship victory, was named the RMAC Men's Golfer of the Year, the RMAC announced Wednesday.
Novak recorded the best three tournaments of any RMAC golfer, turning in a cumulative 11-under-par. His 16-under-par at the RMAC Spring Championships was the big performance that lifted him to the Golfer of the Year title.
He becomes the first CSU-Pueblo golfer to ever be formally recognized as the conference's golfer of the year, but many others have been ranked as the RMAC's top golfer at season's end, though no MVP award was officially given. Those include Travis Morton (2004), Jason Allen (1994, 1995, 1997), and Brad Elliot (1990), according to available records.
Novak, who receives a first-team All-RMAC selection by virtue of his Golfer of the Year title, joins teammate Jonathan Park (Fr., Denver, Colo.) as an all-RMAC selection. Park was the second-ranked freshman in the RMAC in 2011, just missing out on the RMAC Freshman of the Year award.
Rounding out the Pack's awards were head coach Josh Koschke, who was voted the RMAC Coach of the Year by the RMAC coaches. The second-year coach turned the ThunderWolves around from program ridden with holes upon his hire into arguably one of the top young teams in the region. He becomes the first ThunderWolf men's golf coach to earn the Coach of the Year honor.
The RMAC Men's Golf all-conference teams are comprised of the top 15 individuals based on the three (3) best scores of the four mandatory events. The golfer with the lowest stroke average using the three best scores of the four mandatory events is the Golfer of the Year, while the freshman with the lowest stroke average using the three best scores of the four mandatory is the Freshman of the Year. The Coach of the Year is voted on by each of the nine head coaches.
