ThunderWolves near top of the pack after one round
CSU-Pueblo in the running to advance to National Championships.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (GoThunderWolves.com - May 2, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo got off to a great start during the first round of the NCAA Division II West/Central Super Regional Monday, getting under-par days from two golfers as the Pack sat in third as a team.
Behind top-15 performances from James Berry (So., Traverse City, Mich.) and Jonathan Park (Fr., Denver, Colo.), each of which shot a one-under 71, CSU-Pueblo shot even par as a team with a 288, five shots behind first-round leader, Sonoma State, the 11th-ranked team in the nation. RMAC foe, Fort Lewis, was one stroke ahead of the ThunderWolves after one round.
CSU-Pueblo is attempting to finish among the top five teams in the 20-team Super Regional, as the top five squads earn entry to the NCAA Division II Championships, being held May 17 at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Florence, Ala. The ThunderWolves haven't qualified for the National Championships since 1995.
The second round of the West/Central Super Regional will continue Tuesday.
