CSU-Pueblo's Men's team splits in Match Play Championships

DENVER, Colo. –(GoThunderWolves.com-March 25, 2012)-Taking a break from the normal tournament format, CSU-Pueblo's Men's Golf team took part in the Bear Creek Intercollegiate Match Play Championships being held in Denver, Colo., on the Bear Creek Golf Course.  Using match play rules, where scoring is kept by hole and not by stroke, the ThunderWolves split two head to head match-ups against RMAC foes, Colorado Christian and Regis.

On Saturday, the Pack fell to Colorado Christian 3 to 2 but not without a fight. Then on Sunday, the Pack got it turned around when they defeated Regis 3.5 to 1.5.

Two of the ThunderWolves quickly adapted and dominated the weekendRicco Tapia (Jr., Raton, N.M.) and Scott Wyers (Sr., San Diego, Calif.) earned wins in both matchups.  Tapia (6&5/5&4) and Wyers (4&3/4&3) accounted for four of the teams points.

Putting up the fight in the CCU matchup was James Berry (Jr., Traverse City, Mich.).  Berry took his match to 19 holes and fell short, losing 1 down.  Sunday was different for Berry, as he posted a win for the Pack(4&3).

Picking up the only other points, a half point, for the Wolfpack was Matt Porter (RFr., Castle Rock, Colo.), where he halved his match against Regis.

CSU-Pueblo will take off to play in the Bronco Invitational in Edmond, Okla. starting April 2, 2012.  Central Oklahoma will host this event on the Gaillardia Country Club.
