LUBBOCK, Texas (March 7, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's golf team moved up five spots in the final round of the Arbor Hotels Classic Tuesday to finish fourth at the 16-team event hosted by Lubbock Christian University. The ThunderWolves were guided by sophomore Roy Carlsen's (Arvada, Colo.) top 10 finish.
The Pack were fourth overall and second among NCAA Division II teams with a three-round tournament score of 900 (304-302-294). CSU-Pueblo's plus-six round Tuesday was the third best round of the day and tied for the fourth best round of the tournament. All four scoring members of the team shot a 75 or better in the final 18.
Wayland Baptist University won the event with a team score of 875, Odessa College was second with an 882 and the top Division II squad was Rogers State University at 893. The ThunderWolves finished with a three stroke advantage on host Lubbock Christian, who finished fifth with a 903.
Carlsen, listed as the No. 5 golfer, carded a 71-77-74--222, which placed him six-over and tied for 10th in the field of 87 golfers. The sophomore totaled 32 pars and was -5 on par 5's, the third best scoring effort in the field.
Two Pack golfers tied for 23rd, as junior Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) rebounded from an opening round 79 to shoot 74 in round two and 72 Tuesday for a nine-over 225. Senior Jacob Allenback (Pueblo, Colo.) went 77-73-75 for his 225. Senior Jake Ice (Tucson, Ariz.) was T-36th with a 78-78-73--229 (+13).
Next up for CSU-Pueblo is the Bob Writz Invitational at the Bear Creek Country Club in Denver, Colo., March 18-19.
