GOODYEAR, Ariz. (April 3, 2017) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's golf team is in sixth after day one of the Western New Mexico University Mustang Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Arizona Monday. Both senior Jake Ice (Tucson, Ariz.) and Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) are in the top 10 to guide the ThunderWolves.
The Pack shot a 282-298--580 (+4) to sit in sixth of 20 teams at the Palm Valley Golf Club. CSU-Pueblo's six-under 282 was tied for first after 18 holes, then the 10-over 298 moved the Pack down five spots.
Ice shot a 69-72--141 (-3) to sit in a tie for sixth, while Tillman went 67-75--142 (-2) to rank tied for ninth. Ice is tied for first in Par 3 scoring at -1. Tillman's 67 was tied for second after round one and was tied for the second best score in the first two rounds. He leads the field of 104 golfers in Par 5 scoring with a -7.
Senior Jacob Allenback (Pueblo, Colo.) carded a consistent 73-72--145 (+1) to sit tied for 31st. He is tied for second in the tournament with 27 pars.
Freshman Austin Burgess (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also scored for the Pack with his 73 in the first round and 79 in the second for an eight-over 152.
The third and final round is set for 8:30 a.m. MT Tuesday. BYU-Hawaii leads the tournament with a -10, while the top Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference team is Colorado School of Mines (third) with a -4.
