Ewing and McCann sweep RMAC Golfer of the Week honors


COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 11, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo golf programs swept the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week awards Wednesday, as both junior Courtney Ewing (Pueblo West, Colo.) and freshman Nathan McCann (Lurgan, Armagh, Ireland) gathered the honors in a release from the league office.

The recognition is the fourth this season for Ewing, while it marks the first of McCann's career. Ewing gathered the honor in back-to-back weeks Sept. 21 and 28, then was named the league's best player March 28. The women's program has five awards this season, as junior Rachanok Rahulpan (Pathumthani, Thailand) earned the recognition March 14.

The men's program has two awards this season, as Fraser Hughes (Jr., Newton Stewart, Scotland) became the first RMAC Men's Golfer of the Week winner in the 2017-18 season, Sept. 7.

Ewing, who is ranked 55th nationally by Golfstat, finished the Mustang Intercollegiate tied for 19th, as she shot 76-71--147 (+3). The junior totaled seven birdies to tie for the third most in the field of 103 athletes. She played the Par 5's to a team-best three-under that was tied for the third best in the field. Ewing guided the ThunderWolves to a ninth-place finish in a field of 20 teams.

McCann won the Southern Colorado Masters with a nine-under performance to lead the ThunderWolves to a team victory at the Pueblo Country Club. McCann shot a pair of 69's in the 36 holes Monday to sit -4 and tied for second. He shot 66 Tuesday (204 for the tournament) to post the second best score of the tournament that hosted a field of 48 players. Seven of his tournament-leading 18 birdies came on day two, while he also added an eagle on the 555-yard Par 5, 11th. The freshman was six-under on Par 5's, which tied for the second best in the field, while his -1 on the Par 3's was tied for first. He was -2 on Par 4's.

Both programs have a week off before turning their attention to the RMAC Championships, set for April 22-24 at the Ocotillo Golf Course in Chandler, Arizona.
