Pack off to rough start at NCAA Region Championships


AMARILLO, Texas (May 7, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo men's golf team struggled on day one of the 2018 NCAA Division II West/South Central Region Championships Monday at the La Paloma Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.

The ThunderWolves shot a 30-over 314 to sit 19th of 20 teams after 18 holes of the championship. The Pack went six-under on Par 5's to rank seventh in the field, but failed to score on the Par 3's and Par 4's. 

Freshman Nathan McCann (Lurgan, Armagh, Ireland) leads the way for the Pack, as he carded a five-over 76 to sit T-49. He totaled four birdies to lead the team and played the Par 3's even to tie for the second best score in the field. Junior Roy Carlsen (Arvada, Colo.) posted an eagle on the 508-yard Par 5 17th and finished with a 79. He sits tied for 84th at eight over. Freshman Sam Barthram (Weybridge, Surrey, UK) also shot a 79 with eight pars and two birdies to his credit. 

Senior Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) shot a two-over 38 on the front nine, but totaled seven-over on the back to finish with an 80. At nine over he sits T-89. Finally, Fraser Hughes (Newton Stewart, Scotland) finished with an 83 (+12) to rank T-102. 

Tuesday's second round for the ThunderWolves will begin on hole 10 at 11 a.m. MDT.
