Carlsen cards one-under 70 on day two of NCAA Region Championships

AMARILLO, Texas (May 8, 2018) - Junior Roy Carlsen (Arvada, Colo.) carded a 70 to guide the Colorado State University-Pueblo men's golf team on day two of the NCAA Division II West/South Central Region Championships at La Paloma Golf Club in Amarillo, Texas.

The ThunderWolves finished with a 10-over 294 to move to +40 (314-294--608) for the Championships and remain in 19th place of 20 teams. The Pack are 14-under in Par 5 scoring to tie for the third best score in the field.

Carlsen recorded an eagle the 508-yard Par 5 17th for the second straight day to post a three-under 32 on the back nine, where the ThunderWolves started the day. A double bogey on seven was his only major slip of the day, as he combined his 38 on the front to score a 70, which is the only under-par round for CSU-Pueblo in the Championships. He had three birdies on the day and now sits seven-over for the tournament to rank T-47 (79-70--149). He is four-under on Par 5's to tie for the second best score in the field. The Par 5 scoring is guided by his two eagles, which ties him for the most at the tournament.

Freshman Sam Barthram (Weybridge, Surrey, UK) put together a solid round of 72 (+1) to move to nine-over for the Championship and sit T-69 (79-72--151). He gathered 14 pars with two birdies, a bogey and a double. With eight pars Monday, Barthram leads the team with 22 pars.

Freshman Nathan McCann (Lurgan, Armagh, Ireland) shot a four-over 75 Tuesday to also sit nine-over and rank T-69 (76-75--151). He posted a team-best four birdies, but a triple bogey on the Par 3 16th put a black spot on his day. He leads the team with eight birdies in the 36 holes. He is also at -4 in Par 5 scoring.

Senior Neil Tillman (Arvada, Colo.) shot a seven-over 78 to sit T-101 at 16-over (80-78--158). Junior Fraser Hughes (Newton Stewart, Scotland) shot a 77 and is 18-over for the Championships to rank T-103 (83-77--160). Both had two birdies on the day.

The Pack will tee off at 6:30 a.m. MDT Wednesday for the final round.
