Pack's Smith earns RMAC player of the week honors

Colorado Springs, Colo. - CSU-Pueblo goalkeeper Chris Smith (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) had the best weekend of his career when his team needed him the most, allowing just one goal to the third-ranked team in the country in Fort Lewis, and shutting out Mesa State in a must-win for the ThunderWolves.
As a result, the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference has named Smith the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week, the RMAC announced Tuesday.
Smith was stalwart in goal for the Pack against Fort Lewis during the ThunderWolves' 1-1 tie with the Skyhawks, looking back 25 Fort Lewis shots and making five saves as the Pack managed to cut points from the first place Skyhawks.
Buoyed by that performance, Smith made three saves as Mesa State sent nine shots his way in the ThunderWolves' 1-0 victory over the Mavericks, securing his second shutout of the season.
So far in 2008, Smith is 8-6-1 and has a goals-against-average of 1.82.
Smith is the second ThunderWolf to receive RMAC Player of the Week honors this season. Robert Kinsey (RFr., Denver, Colo.) was named offensive player of the week during the first week of the season.
