Four ThunderWolves earn all-region honors
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Four ThunderWolves soccer players have been selected to the Daktronics all-Central Region team, including three first-teamers, Daktronics announced Wednesday.
Robert Kinsey (RFr., Denver, Colo.), Udobong Obotette (Sr., Eugene, Ore.), and John Christy (Sr., Layton, Utah), each earned first-team all-region honors, tied for the most first-teamers of any school in the region. The ThunderWolves also had a fourth all-region representative in Dylan Cook (Jr., Albuquerque, N.M.), who was a second-team selection.
The ThunderWolves' four representatives on the Daktronics All-Central Region team marks the most all-region representatives the program has ever had in a single season. In 1999, the ThunderWolves had three players on the NCAA Division II All-Region squad.
Kinsey, who was selected as the RMAC Freshman of the Year earlier this season, finished third in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in points and fourth in goals. His seven assists were sixth best in the conference. He had 13 goals, the third highest single-season mark in CSU-Pueblo history, and seven assists in 2008.
Obotette, the ThunderWolves' second-leading scorer, finished the season tied for third in assists in the RMAC, and sixth in total points. Obotette had six goals and eight assists in 2008.
Christy, a two-year member of the ThunderWolves, was the quarterback of a defensive unit that allowed just six goals over the team's final seven games, and turned in six shutouts during the season.
Cook, the heart and soul of the CSU-Pueblo midfield, finished third on the team in total points with 11, converting four goals on just 24 shots, and adding three assists.
As a result of being first team selections, Kinsey, Obotette and Christy are now eligible to be selected as all-Americans. If either are selected, they would become the first soccer all-Americans in CSU-Pueblo history.
